Between forensics, grotesque and voyeurism.
Mo Županc is an artist from the Ruhr area who focuses primarily on narrative composing.
Her latest project describes the crime scene work of the criminal investigation department and forensic investigators, as well as their interfaces. In her photographic works, she stages crime scenes in which she plays each role herself, taking the forensic staging to the point of grotesqueness.
With a keen eye for stereotypical role models, dark humor, and satirical bite, she deconstructs social power structures, gender clichés, and institutional rituals. Her works oscillate between forensic science, theater, and caricature—always with a subtle dose of trash and a critical undertone.
The large-format images appear like a random snapshot, reminiscent of hidden object pictures as they are usually densely and detailed, teeming with characters, scenes and little stories that you only recognize at second glance.
Mo Županc invites viewers to explore the scenes visually and cognitively – to create a theory about the course of events and thus create their own crime scene in their minds.
