Mo Županc has been interested in photography and creating things since she was a child.
So it was foreseeable that in 1998, after graduating from high school, she would begin studying product design at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences in Krefeld.
While still a student, she founded her own photo label and, after successfully completing her studies in 2004, experimented with her first more complex compositions in her own photo studio on the scrap island in Duisburg harbor.
In 2005, the first “trash collages” (as Mo Županc herself called the works at that time) were created, such as: ,The wedding', in which she staged a wedding scene in a church, playing the entire wedding party herself.
Even then, her compositions showed the same main characteristics as her current works: parody, grotesque and stereotypical role models.
In addition to her artistic work, Mo Županc fulfilled another of her heart's desires in 2009 and began training as a midwife in Hanover. After passing her exams, she worked freelance and began studying photojournalism at the Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts in 2015.
For personal reasons, she returned to the Ruhr region in 2017 and simultaneously applied for a master's degree in photography at Bielefeld University. While studying, she continued to work as a midwife until joining the Criminal Investigation Department in late 2021.
Soon after, she put her previous, more socio-culturally focused master’s thesis topic aside and developed a new thesis entitled: “The history of crime scene photography and its own artistic implementation”She successfully completed her Master's degree in early 2023 and has since been working on further compositions for her project 'Crime scene photos'.
Mo Županc lives and works in Duisburg and Hanover.
